 What is MCT?

MCT is an abbreviation for Medium Chain Triglycerides, i.e. fat chains of medium length, compared to a "regular" oil that consists of long fat chains. The length of the fatty acid plays a vital role when it comes to how it is absorbed and utilized by the body. .

Unlike regular fats, MCT oil does not need to be broken down by the bile to be absorbed into the bloodstream. Instead, it can be taken up directly and converted to ketones in the liver. MCT oil is more easily absorbed by the cells without the need for extra enzymes and is converted into useful energy in the mitochondria, which gives the dog a quick and efficient energy supply. .
