The horse's weight
The safest way to determine the horse's weight is to weigh it on a scale, but if you don't have access to one, there are other ways to estimate the horse's weight. A weight tape—available at your local equestrian store—is relatively accurate.
If you don't have a weight tape, you can use a regular measuring tape and measure the horse as follows:
Make sure the horse is standing straight when you measure.
To measure the girth, place the tape behind the withers and the elbow.
The length is measured from the horse's elbow to the point of the hip..
Girth (A) x Girth (A) x Length (B) / 8900 = HORSE'S WEIGHT
Just like the developed weight tapes, this system is primarily suitable for horses of the warmblood type.
Thoroughbreds typically weigh more than what calculations from weight tapes and measuring tapes indicate..
