FAQ - Horse
Itching
"My horse is rubbing its mane, how can I prevent it?"
Many horses experience itching in the mane, forelock, and tail during the summer months. This can be caused by sensitivity to midges, insect bites, or sun exposure. The issue is most common in Icelandic horses and cold-blooded breeds, but horses of all breeds can develop summer itching.
To help reduce discomfort, you can apply
Itch Stop
to the affected areas. Itch Stop contains clove oil, known for its antiseptic properties, and camphor oil, which has long been used to soothe irritated, itchy skin. Apply Itch Stop once daily, massaging it into the skin for the best effect
Adding Zinc to the horse’s diet can also be beneficial, as long as it is balanced with the rest of the feeding plan. Zinc is a mineral that plays a crucial role in immune function and supports the skin’s ability to resist insects and sun exposure.
