Coat change
"My horse becomes tired, sluggish, and irritable during coat change. What can I do?"
Each hair strand is connected to the bloodstream and is directly influenced by the blood’s nutrient composition. Growing a new coat, which is part of the body’s largest organ, requires extra nutrients, especially protein.
Even if your horse consumes 100% of its daily protein requirement, adding a protein supplement during coat change can be beneficial, as this process demands additional resources. If the horse does not get enough protein relative to its needs, it may develop a protein deficiency, which can negatively impact muscle condition, mood, and coat quality.
Many horse owners notice positive effects from B-vitamin supplementation during coat change. Since the horse requires extra nutrients during this period, gut microbes may struggle to produce enough B vitamins, making supplementation a helpful support.
