Feeding
"Is my horse getting everything it needs, or does it require concentrate feed?"
How do I know if my horse is getting all the nutrients it needs?
The best way to ensure that your horse receives proper nutrition is by analyzing the forage. A forage analysis provides information on energy, protein, and minerals, helping you determine if any additional supplementation is necessary.
Does my horse need concentrate feed?
No, your horse does not necessarily need concentrate feed. If the forage meets the horse’s nutritional requirements, it is often sufficient to add only vitamins and minerals, such as Trikem Minerals and Trikem Vitamins
If additional energy or protein is required, there are gentle alternatives:
- Trikem Energy Oil – A high-quality energy source.
- Trikem Protein Complex – A protein feed with prebiotics.
How much forage should my horse eat?
A horse should consume at least 1,5 kg dry matter (DM) per 100 kg body weight per day . To determine the actual amount of feed required, you need to know the DM content:
Hay (84% ts) → Approx. 10,7 kg per day for a 600 kg horse.
Haylage (65% ts) → Approx. 13,8 kg per day for a 600 kg horse.
