Proper muscle development creates durable and strong horses
Did you know that horses have around 700 muscles? The health and function of muscles and joints are fundamental for achieving the best results from our training with horses. But how can we best support muscle development in our horses?
A horse's muscles function as support for tendons, ligaments, and cartilage. When the muscles become tired, they lose their support function, and the strain on surrounding tissues increases. Joint and tendon issues are often a result of the horse not being prepared for the training we put them through. It's important to first focus on building and maintaining the horse's muscles before demanding more from them.

Horse muscle development
When a horse performs work, muscle development begins with the production of muscle protein. The muscle increases in volume, and the horse gains muscle mass that strengthens the body and protects against wear and tear. Muscle development happens even faster if we provide the horse with high-quality, easily digestible protein and all the essential amino acids required. Therefore, in connection with training, we should optimize the horse's intake of the right protein and amino acids to maximize muscle growth.
"Muscle Maker is fantastic, as I find it helps horses build and maintain muscle. I then complement it with BCAA for muscle function and the horses' recovery."
/ Erik Nordström (International Show Jumper)
The role of amino acids
In the horse's body, the protein it receives through its diet is broken down into amino acids, which are then recombined into new combinations to form, among other things, muscle protein. There are 21 different amino acids. Some of these can be produced by the horse itself, but several essential amino acids must be supplemented. BCAA (Branched Chain Amino Acids) is a specific type of amino acid that the horse's body cannot produce on its own.
"We use BCAA in connection with major performance efforts. It helps the horses with recovery."
/ Fredrik Jönsson (International Show Jumper)

Improve recovery and protect muscles
It is during the recovery phase that amino acids come into play and actual muscle development occurs. To help the horse improve its recovery and build muscle, the addition of BCAA as a supplement is beneficial. In addition to initiating muscle building,
BCAA
as a supplement is beneficial. In addition to initiating muscle building, BCAA protects muscles from breakdown, accelerates recovery, and reduces muscle soreness.
"I use Muscle Maker on my young horses, who need a little extra, and I feel a huge difference. They have gained much more powerful take-offs and make very nice jumps."
/ Erica Swartz (International Show Jumper)
Muscle-building protein supplement
Muscle Maker is a unique muscle-building protein supplement given to horses to build and maintain muscle mass. It is full of high-concentration, high-quality protein from spirulina and valuable amino acids in the form of BCAA. Spirulina is a microalga with naturally high protein content and is packed with nutrients. It is an excellent source of vitamins, minerals, and GLA (omega-6). Research has shown that spirulina has prebiotic effects, and a healthy gut flora is crucial for muscle development. BCAA is rapidly absorbed by the body, meaning that the body can immediately begin the process of building muscle mass. They act as a catalyst for muscle development. Therefore, you can influence your horse’s sustainability through proper training and supplementation with the right protein and amino acids.
"I use Muscle Maker on my horses during more intense training periods to give them extra help in building muscle. I find it easier for them to build muscle, they respond positively to the training, and they have more stamina."
/ Isabella Tovek (International Dressage Rider)
