Joints & Muscles
It is thanks to joints, tendons, and muscles that we create movement. The well-being and function of muscles and joints are essential for success in our training. The training we do with our horses needs to be varied to reduce wear and tear and to achieve our goals, regardless of the discipline.
Muscles are made up of muscle fibers that are stressed and broken down during training, then rebuilt to become larger and stronger than before. For the rebuilding of muscle fibers to occur, the right building blocks in the form of high-quality proteins and amino acids are required. During the breakdown of muscle fibers, waste products are formed, including lactic acid (lactate).
It is important for the muscles to have time to recover and clear away waste products before they are stressed again. The joints have a high nutritional need and require several different nutrients to stay healthy. Most of these nutrients can be produced by the horse itself, but the body's production decreases with age, which is why older horses may sometimes need extra support in the form of supplements. Similarly, younger, hard-working horses may require additional support through supplements to prevent unnecessary wear and tear on the joints.
Training is the key to achieving your goals. If you train too little, you won’t become stronger, faster, or more skilled. If you train too much, it will put unnecessary strain on the body, and the quality of the training will deteriorate. A well-planned training schedule, tailored to your horse's current abilities, is crucial.
