Hay or Haylage
"What is the difference between hay and haylage?"
Both hay and haylage belong to the category of forage and consist of one or more types of grass, clover, and herbs. The difference between hay and haylage lies in the preservation process.
Hay is dried grass with a dry matter content of at least 84%.
Dry matter, abbreviated as DM, indicates how much of the feed consists of dry substance and how much is water.
Haylage is dried for a shorter period and then wrapped airtight in plastic. It contains more water than hay and varies in DM content between approximately 45–65%.
