"When should I start giving my dog joint supplements?"
It is usually recommended to start giving joint supplements when your dog needs extra support for its joints due to early signs of stiffness. It's important to pay attention to changes in your dog's movement patterns. Is it struggling to jump into the car? Does it seem stiff at the beginning of a walk? If so, it may be time to introduce a joint supplement.
Even better is to start with joint supplements as a preventive measure. This may be relevant if the dog is aging, is actively trained and you want to prevent injuries, or belongs to a larger breed that generally puts more strain on its joints. Dogs with a conformation that does not favor durability, such as poorly structured joints, may also benefit from supplements at an earlier age. Excess weight also negatively affects the joints, and in such cases, a joint supplement can be a good complement—however, always in combination with a balanced diet and exercise to achieve a healthy weight.
